4 Tips To Get More Out Of Your E-Cig Battery

Better-Battery-LifeWhen the e-cigarette industry started to take off in 2008, battery life was not great. Although some lasted a bit longer than others, it was extremely difficult to find a battery that could last long enough to get through a few hours, let alone an entire day.

And while it isn’t too expensive to replace an e-cigarette battery, it’s important to get as much value from your investment as possible, otherwise these costs can add up pretty quickly.

Fortunately, there are things you can do to make sure you get the most life out of your battery. With Magic Mist rechargeable batteries, you can generally expect them to last a minimum of 200-250 charging cycles, with regular reports of 400-500 charges coming in from our customers every day.

So here are our four simple steps that will help extend the life of your batteries.

1. Store your battery properly

Pretty obvious, right? But you’d be surprised at how many times we’ve heard comments like the following:

“So, I was soaking my battery overnight in Windex…”

“It was only on the radiator for a weekend!”

“Storing my e-cigs in the beer fridge really brings out the flavor of my vaping!”

We can all sometimes get careless and forget how things like moisture, humidity and heat can dramatically affect a battery’s lifespan.

Your best bet is to keep your batteries out of harm’s way and most definitely out of children’s hands or pets’ mouths by storing them in a cool, dry place, away from any heat sources or open flames, and definitely not where they can be easily damaged.

2. Charge often

Like cell phone batteries, the common question has been: – “Should I let my battery drain all the way down before recharging?” The answer? No, and no!.

The old school rechargeable batteries suffered from something known as “memory effect,” which meant that your device somehow “learned” your use/charge habits, and would then reduce its overall capacity to reflect these patterns.

But, do not worry you frequent chargers! Newer rechargeables do NOT suffer from such limited technology, and actually perform much better with numerous charges or “top-offs instead of draining them down. It requires less power to get back to a full charge and is less stressful for the battery.

3. Keep it clean

Another obvious one, right? Wrong. Our customer service team has answered any one of the following questions on more than one occasion:

  • “It’s supposed to be brown, right?”
  • “How do you stop the cartridge from squeaking when I put a new one on?”
  • “Liquid on the metal brings you more flavor, no?”

If used properly, your batteries and cartridges are designed to work as cleanly as possible. But things happen. You might drop your e-cig. You might even give the cartridge one too many twists when putting it on. You might store your e-cig upside down in your pocket.

Over time, your batteries can get a bit grimy from everyday use or even become moist from naturally occurring condensation. Since liquid + heat = vapor, some of it is bound to end up in the nooks and crannies.

If you leave your e-cigarette up to its own devices, chances are it is not long for this world. But with a touch of simple upkeep with a Magic Eraser-type sponge and a dry toothbrush will make a huge difference in how your battery connects, and subsequently performs.

So, periodically gently brush the threads and contacts where your cartridge and battery hook together, and you’re done. If there’s any residual moisture or dirt, a quick swipe of a paper towel will get back in fine order.

4. Use it, use it, use it!

Our last tip is the one that seems simple but is the most commonly overlooked. Your e-cig batteries were meant to be used, and used often.

Think of your e-cigarette like a human needing exercise. The more they work out, the easier power will flow through the device. The batteries used in our rechargeables are designed to be used daily, just like the one found in your cell phone.

There’s no point in saving them for a rainy day. They were designed to work from the get-go, so don’t shortchange your experience in hopes of maintaining a collection of vintage e-cigarettes.  .

E-cigarette batteries are not expensive, so stock up, follow these four handy tips here, and be sure you have a few fully-charged ones lying around so you can be sure you enjoy your vaping experience uninterrupted, at home or on the great open road.

Should E-Cigarettes Be In The Workplace?

Here’s what every employer and employee needs to know about the cost benefits of allowing e-smoking at work

No_SmokingHard to believe that it was not that long ago that cigarettes were as much a part of the office routine as paper and pens. It was a time when corporate America was engulfed in smoke and tar from employees puffing away at their desks. But times have indeed changed. Nowadays, it seems like the closest you will get to office smoking is when Don Draper lights up on Mad Men.

However, now a new debate is arising on how to handle an alternative to traditional cigarettes in the office, e-cigarettes. Since e-smoking emits harmless water vapor, rather than dangerous smoke, with a mixture of dangerous chemicals,  supporters of using e-cigarettes in the workplace are urging companies to allow these devices as a way of improving productivity.

As you can imagine, there are those who are against it saying that it’s similar to regular smoking and can actually be a potential problem.

When a business is creating a smoking policy, they must consider both the health and safety of their employees, as well as the critical effect it has on productivity. That is why cigarettes were banned from offices in the recent past. But e-cigarettes are a whole different story.

Although a quick 10 to 15 minute smoke break may not seem like a big deal when looked at individually, the lost productivity adds up substantially over the course of a year, driving up a business’s basic level costs.

For instance, according to an article in the New York Times (http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/08/07/the-cost-of-a-smoker-5816/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=1), a private employer pays an extra $5,816 per year for each employee who smokes compared to a nonsmoking worker. Not surprisingly, the majority of this excess annual cost ($3,077) comes from taking smoke breaks. Smokers took an average of 5 breaks per day – whereas nonsmokers only took 3, as sanctioned for most workers.

The second largest reason for the excess expense of hiring smokers ($2,056) is directly related to health care, with the remaining costs tied to absenteeism amongst employees who smoked. Researchers found that smokers miss approximately two and a half more workdays each year than their nonsmoking coworkers.

So while it seems obvious as to why cigarette smoking was banned in the office, where do e-cigarettes fit in? How should businesses handle e-smoking?

A growing number of businesses are being proactive and taking steps to handle the growing number of employees who are switching to e-cigarettes by amending their company policies. They realize that from a common sense perspective, allowing e-cigarettes will encourage an employee’s productivity.

However, there are companies that have gone the other way by including e-cigarettes in their organization’s smoking ban. As an example, many train, rail, and airline companies prohibit e-smoking to avoid any potential passenger confusion.

However, a great number of businesses are on the fence about how to treat e-cigarettes. A major reason for this is there are no definitive long term studies showing the effects on productivity.

But there is quite a bit of short term evidence that productivity is increased.  In an article from the Examiner, (http://www.examiner.com/article/electronic-cigarettes-the-workplace-could-they-boost-productivity) the author calculates that if 10 workers take five, 10-minute smoke breaks per day –and factoring in the national average hourly wage– the productivity loss would total at least $50,000 annually.

Overall, the author of the article estimates that allowing e-cigarettes in the workplace could recover $100,000 annually in productivity per every 10 employees who smoke.

More and more businesses are taking a closer look at e-cigarettes and discovering that allowing them in the workplace can be beneficial to productivity. However, the role of e-smoking in your office will depend on your specific company.

Vaporizers Or E-Cigarettes-Which One Should You Use?

Vaporizers or e-cigarettes – it can be a bit confusing.

If you have had the chance to look at forums and blogs regarding e-cigarettes and vaporizers, you may be confused regarding the differences and why do people use one over the other. This article should help give you some baseline information so that you can make an informed decision.

aaa1

E-Cigarettes

Functionally, all electronic cigarette devices (disposable, rechargeable e-cigs, and vaporizers) use similar concept. They use a liquid, known as e-liquid which is made from a number of different edible ingredients and is generally a combination of nicotine, propylene glycol and also a range of different flavors – we offer tobacco, menthol, cherry, vanilla, apple, banana, blueberry, green mint and coffee!  When heated, this is broken down and turned into vapor. This is how you receive nicotine when you take a puff.  All different forms of e-cigarettes and vaporizers are used to receive a nicotine fix; however they do so in different ways.

Disposable E-Cigarettes

Disposables e-cigarettes are the most common devices in the market. Many of them are available at gas stations, bars, and over-the-counter almost anywhere cigarettes are sold. Many smokers begin with this type of device since they are extremely easy to use. Just open the pack and start vaping. Using a disposable would certainly save you money over using regular cigarettes as well.  However, it is important to understand that disposable are just the tip of the iceberg. While some people find all the satisfaction they are looking for in a disposable,  serious smokers may prefer something a bit more powerful like rechargeable ecigs or personal vaporizers.

Rechargeable E-cigarettes

Rechargeable Ecigarettes are for people who are serious about e-cigarettes. These ecigs have the advantage of reusable batteries and pre-filled cartridges. The battery could be recharged using a USB charger and could last 3-6 months under normal use. Pre-filled cartridges could be bought directly online or at a store. 1 cartridge often lasts for about 1 pack of cigarettes. Just screw them over the battery and start vaporing. They offer the better cost savings over disposables in the long-run. So, if you want to save money and don’t want to worry about filling your cartridges, a good quality starter kit is the right product for you.

Personal Vaporizers

For people who are very serious about vaping and want to save serious money over the regular cigarettes, Vaporizers are the right product for you. There are two main benefits of using a vaporizer. First, they give the maximum savings over the long run.  And second, they give a very easy option to try numerous flavors: Flavors such as cherry-vanilla, apple, blueberry, or coffee-tobacco for you brave vapers out there! You can even mix and match different flavors to create your own. The only caveat is that you would need to fill you own e-liquid in the tank tube / clearomizer. Although it is very simple process, not everybody wants to go through the pain of filling e-liquid and sometimes making a mess in the process.

However, still considering significant $$ savings and an option of trying multiple flavors, it is a not a surprise that more and more people are switching to the vaporizers. 1 10ml bottle of e-liquid costs about $7 in the market and could last for about 5-7 packs of cigarettes. It is expected that the Vaporizer market is going to keep getting larger as more people try it. Even some of the larger companies are entering this market. MISTIC recently introduced their vaporizer ‘Hauss’ and is available in Walmart and many other stores.

More Differences

These devices use similar forms of power – batteries or charging via USB or plug. Obviously, there is a significant difference in form and shape and the e-cig is a lot more portable than the vaporizer and can be used easily in public situations.

Cigarette smokers also like regular disposables or rechargeable e-cigarettes because they mimic the feeling of a real cigarette. That said, there are increasing numbers of pocket vaporizers available and these can be carried almost anywhere in a pocket.

Of course, this is a case of them being utilized for different purposes. If you wanted to watch your favorite movie on a bus, you’d bring your smart phone and not your TV set. Although, given the choice of experience the TV set wins out when at home. In essence, what’s best depends on the specific situation.

Both rechargeables  and vaporizers are easy to use once you know how to use them. Also, it is fairly easy to learn how to use them.

So, e-cigs and vaporizers each have benefits to being used and it just depends on your specific need.  And as you move through your vaping experience, be sure to experiment until you hit upon the right device for you.

How to fill a E-cig Tank Tube

For EGO Tank Tube, following steps could be followed to fill them:
a. Pull the mouth piece (drip tip) out from the tank tube
b. Tilt it at an angle and fill the e-liquid in the metal cylinder (with cotton inside). About 10-15 drops should be enough. This is exactly same as filling a regular ecig cartridge.
c. Make sure that no e-liquid goes in the narrow center tube (in the center of the metal cylinder). That narrow tube is used for air flow.
d. Push the metal cylinder down with your thumb (or the top part of the drip tip) and then pull it down from the other side. Don’t remove it completely but just enough to tilt it an angle to fill liquid in the tank
e. Tilt the tank at an angle and fill the tank with the liquid. Don’t overfill as it might result in leaking. Three-fourth of tank is normally enough
f. The hole on the side of metal cylinder will now be used for e-liquid absorption in the filter and keep it wet.

So filling tank tube is basically 2 step process:
First fill the center tube with e-liquid. This is very similar to filling your blank cartridges. However this needs to be only first time on a new tank tube to prime it up.
Then fill the cylinder around that tube by pushing the center tube down.

There are many Youtube videos on the Internet that describe this process as well.

FDA regulations on eCigs

On April 25, 2014, FDA came out with first set of regulations that would ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to anyone under 18. Flavored products, online sales and any advertising are not restricted.

Bonnie Herzog, an analyst at Wells Fargo, said the proposal is “positive for industry.”

FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said that the proposal represented the first “foundational” step toward broader restrictions if scientific evidence shows they are needed to protect public health. That declaration worries some companies. “I think the proposal shows a good science-based reaction here from the FDA, but there is a lot we have to go through during the public comment period.”, said Jason Healy, president of Lorillard Inc.’s blu eCigs unit, which holds roughly 48% of the market. Lorillard, together with privately held NJOY and Logic Technology, accounts for an estimated 80% of the market. Other big tobacco companies, including Altria Group Inc. and Reynolds American Inc., are also entering the market.

Michael Siegel, a professor of community health sciences at Boston University, said a ban on flavorings would have “devastated the industry, as the flavors are a key aspect of what makes these products competitive with tobacco cigarettes.” Similarly, a ban on all e-cigarette advertising “would have given tobacco cigarettes an unfair advantage in the marketplace,” he said.

In the short term, the new rules would prohibit companies from distributing free e-cigarette samples, forbid vending machine sales except in adult-only venues and prohibit sales to minors. Companies would also be required to warn consumers that nicotine is addictive, but no other health warnings would be required. How To Open A Vape Shop

VAPE1So you love to vape, know tons about ecigarettes and want to start up your own vape shop. With the explosion of e-cig sales in the last few years and the potential for even bigger sales in the future, taking your vaping expertise and sharing it with an interested and growing audience makes good business sense.

But do you know what is involved in getting your vape shop dreams out of your head and out in the wide world? We were able to find out some interesting information from a very successful store owner in Long Beach, California, named Jon Merton. Jon hosted and sponsored the largest West Coast Vaping gathering in 2013, Vapetoberfest and has six franchise locations.

I bet you can guess what the biggest expense is in setting up shop. If you said rent, you are right! It is the biggest financial and long term commitment and an unavoidable one. Rent prices can vary to less than $1.00 a square foot in industrial areas of the country to double digit numbers a square foot in some of your pricier zip codes.

Along with the rent, there are other required expenses:

  • Payroll
  • Insurance
  • Licensing
  • Taxes

These items need to be researched and understood as many potential Vape Shop owners have never owned a business before. Aside from the prices tags of these items, there is the process of training your staff and dealing with customer service issues. And don’t forget about the regulations that may be more fluid than in any other industry.

unnamedSo let’s talk about the fun stuff…inventory!! You will have to a set amount of basic stock on your shelves before you cut the ribbon. It is important that you provide a range of mods, parts and juices to appeal to a guide cross section of customers. You need to remember that, initially, you cannot be all things to all people. This is where your own experience with vaping and ecigarettes will help you immensely. Knowing what brands are good, what parts are high quality and which mods deliver the best vaping experience will ensure that when your customers leave your store with their purchase, they will be happy vapers!

For some perspective, here are some costs for elements of your store’s success:

  • Rent: ~$2,500-$5,000/month
  • 100 Starter Kits: ~$2500
  • 100 Intermediate Kits: ~$5000
  • Tanks, tips and accessories: ~$5000
  • 10 units of 15ml Bottle of E-Liquid in 20 flavors (0, 6, 12, 18, 24 NIC): ~$15,000
  • Phone/Internet :~$200/month
  • Point of Sale: ~$200/month (yearly subscription/1 seat)
  • Electric Bill: ~$150/month
  • Liability Insurance: ~$150/month
  • Working Hours:~10-12 hours a day Monday through Sunday
  • Employees Pay: (4 employees+25hrs.wk each=$3,600/month)
  • Misc.:~$500/month
  • Marketing/Promotion:~$100/month minimum

TOTAL MONTHLY EXPENSES: ~$7,420-$10,020 minimum (not including product)

Remember that in this example, the estimates for inventory are very low, so you can modify the numbers based upon your financial situation. One of the biggest failures of all businesses is “under-capitalization” which means running out of money. So be sure that you have at least 3 months of liquidity to cover your start up time.

So, what do you think? Are you positioned to become a vape store owner? An ecig entrepreneur? We’d love to hear what your experiences have been or if you are considering opening a vape store!
