In the UK…
The governing body that rules over the e-smokes is the Trading Standards. You will not see these smokeless cigarettes referred to as nicotine replacement therapy. Also, they are not allowed to be displayed next to smoking cessation aids like the gums or patches. These smokeless cigarettes have not received approval by the MHRA.
In the USA…
Being as the electronic cigarettes do not contain tobacco they are not mandated by the tobacco laws of the country. Legislatures have been proposing setting some type of regulations where they would be able to set specific restrictions, but nothing specific has been made law as yet. There are restrictions in place as to how they can be marketed.
In Canada…
The regulations set in Canada regarding the e-cigs are really controversial. These cigarettes are illegal to sell in the country if they contain nicotine. Yet standard cigarettes that do contain nicotine of course are still freely sold in the country.
